Julia Ross gives viewers of Nine Network's Today Show advice for school leavers receiving final exam marks. Julia's top five tips for school leavers are:
- Be open to all opportunities and make the most of resources available to you – talk to Careers Advisors and consider every option. You never know where something might lead.
- Be resilient – every job involves aspects that you don’t enjoy so much as well as aspects that you love. Focus on the good stuff, not the aspects that you’re less keen on.
- Make the most of the people you meet. Having positive relationships with co-workers is one of the biggest contributors to job satisfaction, so do your part to cultivate those relationships.
- Tailor your resume – don’t spray around a generic resume and hope it sticks somewhere. Target the role types you’re interested in and make sure your application is relevant to them.
- Follow up – whether you’re dealing with a recruitment organisation or an employer direct, don’t just email your resume and leave it at that – call to follow up and discuss your strengths with the recruiters.
